An Unlikely Party 21: Trusting In Love

Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Walker lightly tapped his glass on the counter repeatedly while staring blankly off across the Ladies’ Door. It was the middle of the day, so the place was fairly empty. Callie and Rede had left earlier to go explore town, while Shade and Gorgos went out to sell some potions. There were two other people sitting at the bar talking together on the opposite side from where Walker was, and a few of the dancers were chatting on the stage. “Need something else?” The bartender asked Walker.
Walker jumped slightly, caught off guard, and turned to the bartender ceasing to tap his glass against the bar. The guy was young and strong, Walker was quickly able to recognize him as the ‘tender Para had asked to take over when they first arrived, Jack. Walker eyed him over and shook his head, his drink was still half full, “You Para’s second?”
Jack shrugged and leaned on the bar, “She don’t have an official one yet.” He smirked and smiled, “In her defense though, she’s not going to need one for a long time.”
          “But…?” Walker asked him.
“She seems to put more responsibility on me than the other’s here.” Jack admitted, “Especially when she’s focused on her other work, then it’s usually up to me to hold down the bar.”
“She’s driven.” Walker sighed, “Haven’t seen a drive like that for a long time.”
Jack chuckled, “Damn right she is. If she wants something, she gets it. She plays real nice though to everyone. Don’t wanna make any enemies.” He smirked, “Between you and me though, I’m pretty sure she could silence anyone if they tried anything.”
“I’m sure she could.” Walker agreed. He stared down into his drink swirling it, “Probably the only reason you haven’t tried anything.” Jack’s eyes opened up wide in shock and Walker cracked a slight smile from the corner of his lips, “Best to keep it that way.”
Jack was about to open his mouth to respond when the front doors flew wide open, “Hey, Jack!” Para shouted across the whole establishment, “Need you to go grab a case of the sapphire wine!” She pushed a handcart full of crates of liquor through the door, “I just remembered we were running low on it. Sorry!”
“Until next time.” Walker said as Jack pushed himself off of the bar.

An Unlikely Party 20: Shadows

The hidden room was much larger than any of them had expected it to be. It could comfortably house all five of them. The room expanded out and was easily was the size of the ‘cellar’ above it. There were already a handful of chairs down in the room, along with a large table, but they would not have fit through the small hole leading into Para’s room, meaning either they were built down here, or there was another way in. Walker had taken a quick glance around and found nothing that looked obviously like a hidden passageway. It was evident that Para had taken down a handful of wooden walls that would have split up the room. The more Walker thought about it, the more he was convinced there had to be another way into it…and that it had to have been used for smuggling people.
Walker quickly pulled out the folder containing the notes about the mimic stronghold and spread the papers out on the table. Most of the papers were maps that were marked differently. “Hey, Shade, mind going back into Para’s room and finding me some tacks and pencils, preferably different colored ones.”
“Can do.” Shade said before he started to climb back up the ladder.
“Gorgos…” Walker turned to look at her, “I want you to lightly knock on the walls surrounding the room. If anywhere sounds…different than the rest, tell me.”
“Task weird, but easy.” She shrugged at him and started tapping along the walls listening carefully.
Walker quietly mumbled to himself as he studied the papers before him. The mimic’s castle was tightly locked down. He grumbled to himself and shook his head while Shade descended back down into the room, “Found this here basket that-“ She froze as she saw Gorgos tapping along the walls, “What are you doing Gorgos?!”
          “Walker asked.” Gorgos responded.
“There used to be another way into this place.” Walker told Shade, “I’m having Gorgos hear if any of the walls seem off.”
“How do you know that?” She responded.
“I’m confident this used to be used for smuggling.” Walker told her, “No one, not even a shitty smuggler, would bring all of their product right through their own tavern. There once was another way out.”
Shade shook her head at Walker and sighed, “I thought you said this used to be filled with gold.” She said while handing over the basket full of pencils, tacks, and yarn.

An Unlikely Party 19: Esteemed Guests

Para smiled proudly as she quickly wiped up the shiny new countertop. The place was busier than it ever had been under Pascal’s ownership. It took the regulars some time to accept that he would have tried to do something so blasphemous, but once Para started upgrading the whole place, stripper section included, no one was complaining. Everything in her establishment was brand new, alongside the multiple bartenders, cooks, strippers, bouncers, and every type of job that she had to hire on to keep up with the demand.
Her eyes suddenly shot up across the floor as she heard a familiar voice cut through the chatter, “Love what you’ve done with the place, Para! Looks like you’ve really upped the game around here.” Para smiled widely as a familiar gnome, orc, elf, and a pair of humans sat down at the bar in front of her. “A round of creampies for me and my friends; If you don’t mind?” Walker asked her with a smile while tossing a small pouch of gold onto the counter.
“Walker!” Para shouted excitedly at him while sliding the pouch of gold back, “You and your friends drink and stay here for free!”
          “You sure, sweetheart?”
“Sure as I’ll ever be! You’ve earned it.” She smiled at him while quickly grabbing everything she needed to make their drinks.
“Consider it a tip then,” Walker told her, “I like you too much to let you serve me for free.”
She shook her head at him and chuckled, “Just this once.” She grabbed the pouch and tossed it under the counter.
“This place has never looked so busy, or so good. Looks like you know how to run this place after all.” He told her.

An Unlikely Party 18: Loyalties

Walker quickly resumed his aggressive stance on the mimic, “I’ll make you a deal, Biyeck. We sit down like civilized people and I’ll give you five minutes to explain in detail what you mean. If I for one second sense it’s a lie…I will kill you as slowly and as painfully as I can.” He narrowed his eyes at Biyeck, “You know that I know mimic biology…so deal?”
Biyeck sighed at him, “I’ll tell you truth…all of it, but you’re not going to like it one bit.”
“A painful truth is better than a comforting lie.”
Biyeck smiled at him and nodded, “We have a deal then.” Walker flipped his dagger away and stepped back from the mimic. Biyeck looked past him at the four others who stared down in shock, “Those your friends…or do we need to kill ‘em?”
Walker chuckled as he held out a hand for Biyeck, “They’re friends. Only ones I got to speak of at least. The male human’s a bit of dick, but they ain’t so bad.”
Biyeck took Walker’s hand and pulled himself up, “Male human’s are normally dicks.”
Walker shook his head, “For gods’ sake man…turn into your disguise, I don’t think these kids can handle talking to a mimic.”
Biyeck slowly started to twist and form into a short, red haired, gnome, “In their defense, you’re the only one I’ve known to be able to.”
Walker shrugged at him, “We’re all just living and breathing creatures. If the Naga weren’t such assholes I would love to befriend a few of them.”
“WHAT THE FUCK, WALKER?!” Rede finally screamed at him.

An Unlikely Party 17: Dusting Off Memories

“Walker,” Rede looked down at him as they relaxed in Garet’s office. Since he needed to find a new home, he told Walker that they could use it permanently. “What in the actual fuck?”
Walker chuckled, “Spies make the best allies as a crime lord. Garet gave me vital information I needed, and in exchange I gave him vital information he needed as well.” He sighed heavily, “They were good days…”
          “What happened?” Callie asked him.
“I was betrayed.” Walker told her flatly, “My partner…” He closed his eyes and bit his lip tightly, “Let’s just find out what this old friend has to say.” He shook his head, “I’ll warn you all in advance…I’ll probably kill them, friend or not.”
“Why?” Callie looked at him confused.
“Because the only people who ever called me friend…” Walker paused, “They all left me for dead.”
“Wouldn’t a crime lord normally see such a betrayal coming?” Rede asked.
Walker smirked, “It’s a lot more…complicated than that.”
“Stop questioning his methods,” Shade spoke up finally, “We don’t know the details. Just like you didn’t know the details of my life…don’t judge until you know the whole story.”
“It’s alright, Shade,” Walker glanced over at her, “They’re in their right. I mean let’s be honest here. Details or not, I WAS a world renown criminal. Maybe I should have known better.” He pushed himself off of the wall and stretched out cracking his back, “Stay close to me. If things haven’t changed that much…then these streets will be full of corrupt guards, petty criminals, gangs, mafia members…it was a bloody mess.”
“Thought your criminal activities were to help the poor?” Callie asked him.
“They were.” Walker shook his head, “These people, they aren’t poor, or as poor as many others, just greedy. Those that are truly poor? They’re the ones working day in day out on the docks. They’re the ones helping out each other because they know how hard it is to make it by day by day. They’re the ones that’ll skip meals so their kids can be full and when they’ve reached so low that they can’t keep going on? That’s when they contacted someone like me.” He paused, “I might not be here anymore, but I left a lasting impact on this city. There are others like me, trying to help the helpless.” He looked back at them all, “There’s good in this city, ranging from the lowest ghetto to the wealthiest noble.”
          “You miss it.” Shade reflected.
Walker frowned and turned away, back towards the door, “I miss a lot of things, Shade…I miss a lot of things” Without waiting for a response Walker pushed the door open and walked out into the alleyways of Port Phishk. The alleyways, while not crowded, were very narrow, two could walk side by side, no more. They were also disgusting. Trash was scattered all over, sometimes even sewage was tossed on these backstreets.
Walker quickly led them to the main streets. It was midday, the busiest time. The streets were crowded with merchant stands that always had a handful of people trying to shop, pubic speakers that spoke on anything and everything, ranging from all viewpoints. Newspaper boys  ran from person to person trying to sell the news. The mass of people would slowly have to part just to allow for carriages to pass through. Walker looked back at his comrades and grabbed Callie’s hand, who was right behind him, “Everyone grab hands and hold on tightly. It’s easy to lose someone in this crowd if you don’t know what you’re doing…and none of you do.”
“This is chaos!” Rede exclaimed as he grabbed the hands of those behind and in front of him.
Walker chuckled, “This…this is trade.”
“But you can’t tell what’s going on at all!” Rede looked at him confused.
“You learn the hang of it sooner or later.” Walker smiled and led them out into the crowd. He was used to these streets, but no one else in his party was. He could feel them often being pushed and shoved around by others while they slowly made their way through the massive crowd.
As he led them, a young paper boy ran up and started walking along side Walker, “Phishk Paper Daily, sir! Only two gold coin for today’s issue!”
“Didn’t you close down five years ago?” Walker asked the boy confused, “Thought the Current Times took over!”
The boy nodded at him quickly, “I’ll be right back.” He said swiftly before disappearing back into the crowd.
“What was that about?” Callie asked him.
“You’ll see.” Walker smiled and continued to lead them across the horde.
Within seconds the boy came running back holding a new roll of paper, “Ten coins.” He told Walker.
“And five for the messenger.” Walker responded pulling fifteen coins out of his pocket.
“Thank you kindly, good sir!” The boy took the coins excitedly.
“Keep fighting the good fight , kid.” Walker smiled at him and nodded before the kid ran back off to sell newspapers.
          “What’s that?” Callie asked him.
“The only newspaper worth reading in this city.” Walker responded. “You see that church off farther down the road?”
          “Yes.” Callie responded.
“Lead the others to the alleyway on the left side of it.” Walker told her, “I’m going to do some light reading. I’ll meet you there.”
Before she could respond Walker took off and disappeared in the crowd, “Shit!” She cursed under her breath. No one else had noticed Walker leaving them due to just how crowded it was. Shaking her head, she slowly led the party over to the church.
The crowd thinned out completely as they entered into the alleyway Walker spoke of. Unfortunately that meant everyone could now see he was no longer with them. “What happened to Walker?!” Rede shouted at her.
Callie shrugged, “He said he was going to do some light reading and meet us here.”
“What?!” Rede looked at her baffled, “And you just let him run away?”
“I didn’t have much of a choice.” Callie took a deep breath, “I’m sure he’ll-“
“Keep his word.” Walker finished as he walked out from the other side of the alleyway, “Sorry guys, just had to catch up on the happenings in this city.”
Callie noticed the paper he had bought was gone, “Where’d the paper go?”
“Where it belongs.” Walker smiled at her.
“What are we doing beside a cathedral?” Rede asked him, “I thought we were going to your home!”
“We are.” Walker responded, “ But you all would attract way too much attention walking through the front door.”
“So we head to a church?” Callie looked at him confused.
“Secret entrance.” Shade told them. “That’s the only logical explanation.”
Walker smiled at her, “Quite right indeed.” He walked over to the cathedral’s wall and pulled out a small square stone from his pocket. He placed it in the hands of one of the many statues on the walls, and immediately a thin doorway cracked open. Walker nodded at Callie, “Lead the way, dear.” Callie shrugged and led the way through the door. Everyone had to turn sideways to squeeze through the crack in the wall, but it quickly widened out for them to comfortably walk in single file, even Gorgos. After Gorgos went through, Walker grabbed the stone out of the angel statue’s hands and quickly slipped in after them before the crack closed back up.
Everything became pitch black when the crack closed up behind them. Callie couldn’t even see her hands in front of her face. Suddenly with the strike of a match, Walker lit up a torch that had been resting on the inside of the cathedral’s wall. The flickering light lit up the passageway fairly well, “Just follow the pathway until it opens up into a massive room, Callie.” Walker told her.
“You made this?” Rede asked him.
          “Sort of.” Walker responded.
“What do you mean by sort of?!”
Walker chuckled, “Some things are easier left unexplained. Let’s go.” Callie led them down the small tunnel for nearly a quarter of an hour before the tunnel finally opened up into the large room Walker spoke of. The room was full with dusty tables, maps, and papers. Walker took a deep breath and walked over to the main table. “Just like I left it…” He mused to himself.
“This was your home?” Rede asked him.
Walker smirked, “No. This was my base of operations.” He walked over to one of the many tunnels that led out of the room, “This leads to my home.” He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, “Let’s see who was ballsy enough to summon me.” He didn’t wait to see if they were even going to follow him before taking off down the pathway. This one was much shorter than the last. It ended abruptly with a ladder that led up to a closed hatch.
The hatch creaked open and dust poured down onto him as he pulled himself up and onto the wooden floor of his home. As everyone else came through the hatch, they all gasped seeing what Walker’s home looked like. It was made of wood, poorly put together, and creaked with every step they took. Some of the nails weren’t even put in all the way, sticking out of the floors and walls. Walking out of the backroom they could look out the dirty windows to see other houses built just as poorly, looking as if a strong breeze would cause them to crumble. The roads outside were made of dirt and dust. Rede turned around to look at Walker and apologize for assuming he had lived in a castle, but Walker wasn’t there.
Suddenly dust fell down from the wooden boards above them as they heard a loud ruckus coming from upstairs followed by Walker screaming, “YOU MOTHERFUCKER!” They all quickly climbed up the ladder that led upstairs and stared in shock as walker had a mimic pinned to the far wall with a dagger at its neck, “Give me ONE good fucking reason why I shouldn’t kill you right now!”
The mimic didn’t look like it was afraid of him or trying to put up a fight at all. It relaxed against the wall even with the tip of Walker’s dagger pushing against its neck. It swallowed and looked at Walker with…sympathy, “Night didn’t betray you, Walker. The Mimic council betrayed her. She’s in our prison, has been ever since that day.”
“Why should I believe you?!” Walker screamed at it pressing the dagger even harder against its neck. Green ooze-like blood started to drip out.
A tear formed in the mimic’s eye, “Jelia’s dying wish was for you to know the truth.” Walker’s aggressive attitude suddenly dropped and he relaxed looking at the mimic in shock. The mimic nodded sorrowfully at him, “I lost my love, but you can still save yours.”

An Unlikely Party 16: An Old...'Friend'

Shade came walking back into the room smiling a few hours after he had left. Closing the door herself she clapped her hands, “Made more than enough for the weeklong dosage that’ll heal him back up.” He told Latiya, “Queen Mother will make sure that he receives it.”
“Are you not staying any longer?” Latiya asked him, sounding disappointed.
Shade smiled at her warmly, “You know I’m not wanted here by anyone else. Plus, Walker had something he needed to go do. Coming all the way home will dramatically increase the time until we can get to where we were headed.”
Latiya looked back and forth between Shade and his friends. Finally she spoke up, “Well, I’m glad you’ve at least found some people to call home, I’m just sorry it’s not here.”
Shade shrugged, “Faris makes a fine and just King, probably better than I would have. I hated those lessons.”
“He took it to heart because he wanted to make you proud.” Latiya told him, “He never wanted it, he simply did it because he wanted to be as good as he thought you would have been.”
Shade smiled, “Well, he sure has made me proud. I’d even go as far to say he’s done a better job than father, but if we’re praising family members, we certainly can’t forget about the rebellious Princess here.” He chuckled and gestured to his sister.
She waved her hand dismissively, “Pff! Royal blood got me nowhere.”
“But I’m sure you use it to tease your rangers.”
Latiya blushed slightly and chuckled, “I might.”

An Unlikely Party 15: Tale Of The Dead Prince

Merely moments had passed before an elven lady came running out of the trees to greet Shade while the rest of the party looked around in confusion. She gripped him tightly in a loving embrace, “Thank the stars you got the message!” She said swiftly.
“The raven is tied to my blood.” Shade reminded her, “It can ALWAYS find me.”
She let go of him and gripped his shoulders looking into his eyes with care, “It’s good to see you again Shade.”
He smiled for only a second, “Indeed, but you know how I feel about this place…how dire is he?”
Her gleeful attitude shifted to darker tones. She sighed heavily and shook her head, “We needed to call you, what do you think?”
“Tell me the story of his affliction.”
She looked over the party who had followed him, “Who’re they?” She asked licking her lips.
Shade nodded at her, “They’re friends of mine. It’s safe.”
She eyed them suspiciously before quickly turning on her heel, “I’ll believe you, but mother will decide that. Follow me and I’ll tell you what’s transpired.”
Shade quickly walked after her using his head to signal for the others to come with, “So?”
“Faris came home one day after hunting like normal.” She started to tell him, “Learned this part later, but while hunting he accidentally inhaled some powder from an artificial plant that has since been carefully removed.” She paused for a moment, “I don’t know how better to describe this so…” She opened up a door that was carved into the side of a large tree trunk and quickly stepped down into the small passageway. “It’s exactly like that one time…when you…” She let the sentence fade away knowing Shade would follow she meant.
Shade froze for half of a second before quickly taking off after her at a quicker pace than before, “What?!” He said in shock, “Why didn’t you contact me sooner?”

An Unlikely Party 14: A Crimson Raven

The party waited patiently at the top of the tower for the next airship to come. Even after travelling through the barren wasteland just north of Mount Grimskull, they were still inland quite a bit making it easier and quicker for them to take an airship out to a port city, and then another ship over to Port Phishk. Nobody else was up here waiting for the airship, the only other person was the gnome who ran the tower. Rede was sitting on Callie’s lap, while Shade occupied the other bench with Gorgos who stood in front of her.
“How long you been working this?” Walker asked the gnome operator.
“Oh this coming Wednesday marks my tenth year.”
Walker whistled, “Ten years? Damn. Guess it must be a decent job.”
“It has its up and downs.” The gnome shrugged at him, “Guards never check up here, that’s both a blessing and a curse.”
“Get robbed often then?” Walker asked him.
“Nah,” The gnome smirked, “People don’t think an airship tower operator is gonna have a lot of money. Do have trouble with people stealing free rides though, refusing to pay me.”
“But I suppose it does let you swindle some extra cash out of your customers.”
The gnome laughed, “That’s not how I find it a blessing, but yea. If the customer’s being a dick I totally charge them more.”
“What’s so good ‘bout it then?”
The gnome tilted his head towards Rede and Callie, “Check out your couple of friends over there. Tell me they aren’t getting bored and wanting to have sex.” Walker glanced over at them and quickly rolled his eyes nodding in agreement. “I get people like that every day up here, couples, singles, hell sometimes whole parties. I run them a deal: They let me in, I won’t kick their sorry asses off this tower.”
Walker broke out into laughter, “If it works, it works!”
“You would not be able to guess some of the things I’ve had sex with and done.”
Walker shook his head as he continued to laugh, “Not going to try to, but I can see the appeal to sticking here for so long then.”
The gnome smiled at him, “Wouldn’t trade it for any other job…besides maybe airship captain. They get to do that AND fly a ship.”
          “You ever flown one before?”

An Unlikely Party 13: Mount Grimskull

They had conquered and already set up their hold over the harpies mountain of Grimskull weeks ago, yet still they were finding hallways and passages that had yet to be explored. Captain Greennorn grumbled as he walked down one of the many hallways left behind. He had with him a small contingent of six men; they were investigating the disappearance of the last group which had been sent down here.  The group stopped suddenly the sound of metal scratching across metal filled the corridor alongside with an inhuman blood-curdling howl. One of the men spoke up in a wavering voice, “That’s no harpy…”
“And how the hell do you know that?” Greennorn challenged him, “Harpy screams change all the damn time.”
“Sir, no offence,” The soldier spoke up, “But it’s been over a month since we started the fight with those bitches. Ain’t ever heard a scream remotely like that one from ‘em.”
Greennorn growled, “What the hell’s would it be if it wasn’t a bloody harpy though? Hm? It’s just starved and crazed harpy. There ain’t nothing else in the mountain.”
“Sir,” A different soldier spoke up, but froze as the scratching sound filled the hallway again. Once it passed, he spoke back up cautiously, “The locals tell tales of terrifying forces that live in this mountain, kept content by the harpies offerings.”
“What?!” Greennorn shouted at him, “What sort of absolute nonsense is that? I’ve never heard a single tale like it in these parts!”
“You haven’t left the mountain since we finally drove out the harpies.” The solider responded, “The locals are starting to get concerned that these…sprits will seek vengeance  on us all.”
Greennorn shook his head, “And you honestly believe them? You...you believe these tales of the supernatural?”

An Unlikely Party 12: Curses!

It took them much longer than expected to reach the temporary home of the harpy princess considering how quickly she was able to reach them. There was no fancy effigies or displays leading into the abode of the princess that would normally be expected, just a very tight passageway up the cliff face of a small plateau that overlooked the barren land. Right past the plateau was the small mountain patch that held both the jade mines and quarries, but also the harpies’ original home. The party sat down on the orange and brown stone once they finally reached the top, “See what we have been degraded to?” The princess asked him, “I live in poorer conditions than most of your commoners…imagine how the rest of my brood must be living.” She glared at Rede and Callie.
Rede took a deep breath, “I knew the old king very well, the one who left you alone.” He told her, “We often discussed about driving you out of your lands, but you and your clutch almost never caused problems for our miners and so he felt it safe to leave you alone. I doubted his choice, but seeing how civil you can be…I am glad he did not listen to my advice.” He paused for a second, “You’re just another kind trying to survive.”
She scoffed at him, “We grow up hearing the same horror stories, but instead of harpies being the monsters it’s you humans. The only difference is that most of the time our fear of your kind is well earned, whereas harpies hardly ever will engage with a human.”
Rede swallowed heavily and said nothing. Callie shook her head at him, “Excuse him for his…awkwardness.” She told the princess, “He’s not used to being put in a position like that…it’s good for him though.”
The princess turned to face Callie, “I care not for his awkwardness. I care about the future of my brood.”
“Understandable.” Callie nodded at her, “I’m assuming those mountains are where you used to live.”

An Unlikely Party 11: Why Did It Have To Be Harpies

The shrill scream cut through the blue sky sharply like an arrow. Everyone in the party cringed and shivered as the sound was even worse than the classic ‘nails on chalkboard’. “Harpies…” Walker growled, “Why did it have to be harpies?”
“Got some grudge against harpies?” Shade asked him, “I mean more than the normal hatred everyone has of them?”
“I just…” Walker clenched his teeth, “I hate harpies.”
“What’re they doing this far north, I wonder?” Callie asked as she looked across the barren landscape in front of them. “No trees or mountains around here for them to make a good home.”
“Probably being pushed out of their homes by the jade mines farther south of here.” Rede told her, “I remember when I was in the Kings’ council that the harpies there were quite a concern. Kanith never went to deal with them though as the harpies had quite the defense set up.”
“You thinking the new King Lance went for it?” Callie asked him.
“He’s all about money. Doesn’t give a shit about the soldiers he’d lose just to increase the size of those mines.” Rede sighed, “It’s the best explanation I can think of at least.”

An Unlikely Party 10: The Walker

Walker was wrong about one thing. Guyil was the head of the shadow government, but that did not change the fact that there was more work to be done. They had already bought off some of members of the town, most importantly someone they called ‘The Mayor’. There was no government or mayor in Talama. While Walker spent time going over the papers in hopes of figuring out who this ‘Mayor’ was, the rest of them spent time gathering up the masses of coin that had been strewn across the room. It took Walker some time, but soon enough the story started to come together.
This ‘Mayor’ was an original citizen of Talama. He knew many things, including the fact that the new human King was interested in expanding his reach. He contacted them first saying that if they helped set up the government in the city, he would in turn give them necessary insights to the city and gladly rule it for them. All mentions of who this ‘Mayor’ was though was unfortunately avoided in the notes, except for one. There was no honor among these thieves, as Guyil had planned to betray the ‘Mayor’.
Walker grumbled and looked up from the papers, “You guys done looting yet?” he asked them. Everyone but Gorgos had handfuls of gold that they were shoving into their backpacks. Gorgos had spent the free time making a large effigy out of the corpses. They all stopped to look at Walker except for Gorgos.

An Unlikely Party 9: The Redemption

Walker was correct there was a money trail, or part of one at least. Almost all of the money Garet was making from the drugs was going to one singular cost. Of course what that cost was, wasn’t explicitly listed anywhere, but it was a very safe bet that it was this shadow government. “How exactly is this helpful?” Callie asked him, “Yipee we know about their money flow…yet we still don’t know anything else.”
“Look at the amount of cash that’s moving into this place!” Walker shouted at her, “You really think they’d be able to safely move this out of here without either A: getting murdered, or B: needing a whole regiment to escort it?”
Callie sighed, “What’re you getting at?”
“The money’s still here…?” Rede asked confused.
Walker rolled his eyes shaking his head, “No the money’s not here, but I’d bet that there’s a passageway for them to safely, and discreetly, transport all that money out of here.”

An Unlikely Party 8: Gorgos Punch

One lead. That’s all they had, but it was technically better than nothing. Hunting down a select few individuals that are trying to start a shadow government in a city this large could easily take months. Thankfully Pascal had a single lead for them to check out. As a group they decided that if this lead was a dead end they would leave the job unfinished, they just didn’t have the time to waste spending possibly months here. Pascal had told them about a house in the slums of the city that had been having much more traffic than it should be, so that’s where the party headed off to.
As they walked through the slums of Talama, they stood out like a bloodstain on a wedding dress. While they weren’t overdressed for this place, they were armed too well to belong in this part of the city. Even as mercenaries, it was obvious they would, and could, find better work in the main part of town. A skittish woman crawled out from an alleyway and stood up right in front of the group, “What’d’ya g-g-gu-g-gu-guys-guys-s-s want?” She asked as she twitched constantly in front of them, “Don’t look-look like ya belong-…here.”
“Well you got that part right.” Walker smirked at her. He shot a quick glare to the rest of his friends letting them know to leave him alone with this.

An Unlikely Party 7: The Good Ol' Days

Walker was the first of the group to wake up after their long night of partying and sex. Considering he didn’t participate in either of those and spent his whole night at the bar, it was no surprise he woke up first. Walking down the stairs he smiled seeing Para again behind the bar while she cleaned up what was left from last nights’ patrons. “You ever leave that bar?” Walker asked her as he sat down across from where she worked. He couldn’t see anyone else besides them anywhere near the bar. Back into the stripper section there was a girl or two working on cleaning themselves up, but that was it.
She smiled at him and chuckled, “Not when duty calls. Not much to do around town here besides go to other bars. Figure I might as well stay in mine and make money.”  She shrugged, “Plus, we’re slow as hell in the morning and early afternoon. Practically don’t have to work.”
Walker shrugged, “Fair enough. I got nothing else to do till my friends wake their asses up, want some help?”
Para laughed at him, “Oh no. I got this covered. Anyways, won’t take help for free.”
“Coffee as payment?” He asked her.

An Unlikely Party 6: The Ladies' Door

The journey to Talama had been fairly uneventful after their escapade with the wyrms. In Talama there was no such thing as a simple, normal tavern to stay at. Everything was a club, stripper joint, or both. Rede let out a sigh, “Well then, where shall we stay?” He asked the party as the stood in the very center of town.
“I’ve heard The Ladies’ Door is quite good.” Walker told him.
Rede slowly turned to face him, “And what kind of place is it?”
“Full of strippers that are mostly whores as well.” Walker smirked, “Friends always said they made damn fine burgers too.”
“Your friends, huh?” Rede questioned him.
“Hey man, I hardly ever left my home city.” Walker shook his head at him, “Plus, I could find all the whores I wanted where I was.”
Rede rolled his eyes, “Anyone else have a say?’
Shade looked over at Gorgos for a second, “Don’t care.” He said.
Callie shrugged, “Can’t say I even knew this city existed. So nope.”
Rede sighed heavily shaking his head, “Alright Walker, where’s this Ladies’ Door?”

An Unlikely Party 5: Stay Frosty

Callie carefully led their party through the mountain tunnels rumored to be the home of many wyrms. They could’ve taken the pass or bought passage on a ship around the mountain range that stood in between them and Talama, but to pass up the chance on stumbling across mounds of treasure was unthinkable. Even those these wyrms, flightless dragons, were less of a threat to the surrounding areas than their winged brethren, but a dragonkind is a dragonkind, and they always hoard massive amounts of treasure. The heat in the tunnels was slowly increasing the farther they walked down them. It was too steady and constant of a heat to be coming from the wyrms, leaving a lava flow to be the only logical answer.
“Shade?” Callie asked quietly, “I’m burning up in my armor, got any magic for that?”
Shade shook his head at her, “No ma’am.”
          “Dammit!” She cursed.
“But I do have a normal potion for that.” Shade chuckled, “Or the ingredients for it at least. Give me a few.”

An Unlikely Party 4: Katak, The Legend

Callie and Rede left the town to head towards the predestinated meeting point. Neither of them had much to do in town besides trade a few items, so they figured they could head out early and have camp completely set up for when the rest of their party finally came around. It was nice and peaceful in the woods where they set up camp. Just another average, calm day of their travelling life often filled with interesting precarious moments. “How long has it been since we paired up?” Rede asked her while he worked on the tents.
“Oh geez…” Calie looked over at him, “A few years at least from when you ‘hired’ me on.” She wasn’t in any of her large plate armor as they hadn’t any plans to be causing trouble anytime soon. Rede found it nice to see her in more form fitting clothes.
Rede chuckled, “Turn out as stupid and boring as you first thought it was going to?” He teased her, “What was it you told me? It was probably a waste of time and a loss of money?”
Calie shook her head at him, “You’re never gonna let me live that down are you?”
“Oh hells no!” Rede immediately replied, “Only since you like it so much.”
Calie rolled her eyes and got back to work, “To be fair, it was a pretty good waste of time the first few months. No one wants to hire just two people for a job normally.”
          “We got by well enough.”
“Speak for yourself,” Calie scoffed, “I was about getting ready to ditch your sorry ass before we ran into Shade and Gorgos.”
“Well, glad you didn’t.” Rede smiled at her, “This party would be lost without you.”
Callie laughed, “Oh trust me, I know.”

An Unlikely Party 3: Wings Of Light

The metal door to the cell slammed shut, echoing throughout the whole, otherwise empty, block, as the large lock clicked in place. One of the two guards spit on the floor of their cell, “Y’all’ll pay for what you done.” He grimaced at them and left with the other guard. They slowly closed the large and insanely thick steel door behind them, sealing the party in the most secure zone of their prison.
“Well…shit.” Rede finally exclaimed after they were alone, “They didn’t even tell us what we were charged with! Those bastards!”
“Probably something along the lines of running an illegal alchemy shop, stealing from their bank, and slaughtering a third of their city guard when we dealt with their street gang problem.” Calie forced a chuckle, “But I’m no expert.”
“It’s not our fault their own guards were part of their gang problem!” Rede shouted at her.
“Calm down, Rede.” Calie said softly, “Getting pissed off isn’t going to change the fact we are fucked.”

An Unlikely Party 2: Needs More Coin

“Shade!” Calie shouted at him as multiple arrows bounced off her shield, “Where’s that potion?”
“Head’s up!” He calmly called back at her as he pulled out a grey, thick, potion from his trench coat and tossed it up in the air. Right before the potion was to fall down onto Calie’s head she lifted up one of her shields. The potion collided with her shield and she slammed it back down in front of her blocking a fireball at the last second.
“Hahaha!” She laughed excitedly as the surface of her shield suddenly turned into jagged stone, “Try and get through me you bastards!” She screamed at the top of her lungs, inciting every single goblin in that area to strike out at her.
“Why in the gods’ names are these goblins able to actually put up a fight?” Rede rhetorically asked as he smited a goblin leaping out from the trees above them, “Normally this is much easier.”
Shade shook his head at Rede, “Fight now, question later!” She pulled out a swirling red potion from her coat and handed it over to Gorgos.
“Power?” She asked him as she set one of her large two handed axes onto her back.
            “Power.” Shade smiled at her.

An Unlikely Party 1: Never Trust A Mimic

Rede looked back over at the rest of his comrades, “Alright guys, this place is of some renown so can we PLEASE behave.” He sighed and glared at Shade and Walker.
“Place of high esteem?” Walker twitched slightly, “Mimics.”
“There won’t be any god damn mimics!” Rede shouted at him annoyed.
“I’ll be the judge of that.” Walker hissed back as he crept along at the back of the group.
Calie shook her head and placed a calm hand on Rede’s shoulder, “We’ll be fine. We’ll only be here for a little bit.”
Rede grumbled to himself, “I hope so.” He shook his head as they neared the entrance into the White Stallion establishment. The owners refused to let the place be called a tavern as it was too high class for such a city name. Rede pushed the large wooden doors open that had twin stallions carved into their faces. He was surprised to see that the place was completely empty of customers, as the only living being in the room was the formally dressed man on the other side.
Calie signaled for Walker, Shade, and Gorgos, their other companion, to sit down at one of the tables while Rede and her talked to the man here. The formally dressed man smiled and waved as he walked up to greet them, “Hello and welcome to the White Stallion!” He spoke with an enthusiastic voice, “We aren’t open for drinks right now, but if you need a place to rest I’m more than willing to accommodate you!”
